A Dummies Guide To writing A Good Hub

Ok let me start out by letting you know that i am not a leading expert on hub-pages nor do i profess to be some kind of whizz when it comes to technical things like SEO or Marketing or any of that kind of stuff,What you are getting from me though is a hubber with over 2 years experience who started out knowing nothing about writing or indeed earning money from writing but is now getting a three figure income every month from writing about things i love and learning as i go.Now you could go the same route as me and stumble blindly through this site making mistakes and learning from them as you go but i would rather you picked up some advice from those in the know and get it right first time.What follows is not necessarily right or indeed the best way to write a hub it is just what has worked for me,there may be better ways of doing this,all i am doing is showing you my way.in the first 15 months i was here i wrote a few hubs and just read forums and asked questions from the people i knew were making money and to be honest it took ages for me to earn any cash and it is only in the last year have i thrown myself into this but i am hoping it helps you guys out and makes you some money too.

This for me is one of the hardest parts,i have always been able to babble about what i want to people it is the idea that is the hard part,You need to write about what you love to start out with as it will show in your writing,me personally i love the UFC and Gaming so that is mainly what most of my hubs are about.Trust me if i had to write about vegetarian food it would show that i didn't like what i was writing.The best thing to be able to write about after something you love is something that other people are going to love but not something that is incredibly popular,basically you need to find yourself a what we call a niche subject,For example one of my niches is games,now a l,ot of people write about games but i wrote about a particular game,and not only that but a particular download for that game and now have around 20 or so hubs based on that which receive in the region of 1800 views a day.Try to think of a niche subject that you know a lot about,it can be hard and if you cant then don't worry too much,it will come to you eventually.Once you have an idea it might be wise to write it down especially if you have more than one,i constantly have at least 5 hub ideas written down so i can access them and write at any point.

Now this will differ depending on who you talk to but this is how i look at it, anything shorter than 300 words will not have enough quality content on there for the reader to become involved or for the google to rank it highly, anything longer than 1500 words and the reader may indeed become bored and click on a different site,therefore if you have to write something long there is two things you can do,you can either split it into two or three separate hubs as i have done with some of mine or you can half way through your hub put in an rss feed of some of your other hubs and hope that if they get bored they click on these,its risky and i would rather split my hubs up.

This bit isn't too hard it is entirely up to your personal taste,some hubbers swear by certain layouts to get more clicks on their ads but i stick to one i like and i would stick to which ever one you like or try different ones and see what works for you.When you first start writing you will need an opening paragraph and this must be more than a hundred words long and this is simply because of the fact that a large advert will be placed down the right hand side of this paragraph and people in the know say this usually attracts more clicks than any other advert,Once you have this paragraph done it is up to you how you set it out but i usually split a lot of my writing up with videos or photos and eBay and amazon capsules.If using eBay or amazon capsules i find they work and look best when inserted inside your paragraph as opposed to underneath it,it just looks neater.

Now when i started i had no idea about rss and to be honest a lot of the hubs that write about it are a bit confusing and i belive that i can make it simpler to understand by just telling you in plain english what it is that an rss feed does.Now you can do certain things such as subscribe to someones feed which means you get automatic updates every time that person publishes a hub but im not interested in that,this section is about getting an rss feed in your hub,basically hubpages lets you have three different rss feeds,one for your hot hubs,one for your best hubs and one for your latest hubs,now i tend to use the latest hubs one mostly as the other two are already going to be getting a lot of traffic due to the fact that they are either hot or best.The latest one basically means at the bottom of each hub it will list up to eight of your hubs and constantly change it as and when you bring out new hubs,or if you choose best instead whenever your best hubs would change then this would show in your rss feed on your latest hub,Confused, i hope not. All you need to do is copy and paste one of these in to your rss capsule and you will see.

Ok so you have finished your hub,you have written a 1200 word hub and have included 2 videos some amazon ads,you rrs feed at the bottom and have spellchecked it and published it.What next?

• Make a copy of it and save it to WORD or whatever you happen to use as you never know what may happen to your work and if you have a copy then your safe
• VOTE UP at the bottom of your published hub there is a vote up button,its your hub vote it up
• Share it with twitter and facebook
• Open a blogger.com account and start 2 or 3 blogs,every time you publish a hub go and post a link with the address in it at blogger
• Open a shetoldme.com account (details on how to do this below) each time you publish a hub share it on Shetoldme.com
• Make sure you answer any comments you may get as this keeps you in touch with your readers.
• If you have an adsense account then go to it and go to adsense set up then go to Channels click on URL channels then click on ADD NEW URL Channels and enter your new hubs address in there and click on ADD Channels this will mean that you can now see how much each individual hub is earning you and how many clicks etc it is getting,you can have up to 200 hubs stored here.
